At Calaveras Labradors, we’ve spent generations perfecting the balance between family companion and hunting partner. Since 1994, our dogs have been field-tested on waterfowl and upland game throughout the Central Valley of California, from the San Joaquin Delta to the Sierra Nevada foothills. Each Labrador in our program embodies the values we hold true: loyalty, drive, and impeccable manners.

We breed only the best—no exceptions. Every dog must have the "on/off switch" that defines a true Calaveras Labrador. This means exceptional obedience and house manners, making them ideal family members, combined with the ability to spring into action the moment the tailgate drops. Our program focuses on finding natural attributes—nose-to-the-ground instincts, a strong drive, and birdiness from day one. If a pup doesn’t exhibit these qualities naturally, it doesn’t make the cut.

Our breeding philosophy prioritizes loyalty, temperament, and field performance first, followed by size, strength, conformation, and coat. Training a Calaveras Labrador is a dream because we don’t force these traits—they’re built into every dog we raise. Each of our Labradors loves their job, whether it’s fetching birds or working alongside their family, and that’s exactly what we aim for: a dog that excels in the field and thrives as part of the family.
